Meet Dr. Joe Sciammarella Dr. Joseph Sciammarella, MD, FACP, FACEP, DABMA, is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Medical Acupuncture, and is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. He has practiced Emergency Medicine for 15 years. Dr. Sciammarella served as the full-time Medical Director of the Suffolk County, NY Emergency Medical Services system from 1989-1994, and is the former Associate Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, NY. Dr. Sciammarella is the President of Health Training/Consulting, Inc., an educational firm that provides emergency cardiac care training to numerous hospitals in the Long Island, New York region. He also has a private practice specializing in Medical Acupuncture, and is the founding president of the New York State Chapter of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture Dr. Sciammarella has been an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook since 1990, is a member of the faculty in the Acupuncture Certification Program at New York Medical College, and is a former faculty member in the school of Oriental Medicine at the New York College for Wholistic Health Education and Research in Syosset, New York. Dr. Sciammarella is the author of numerous scientific articles, has written chapters in several emergency medicine textbooks, and is the author/editor of an Emergency Medicine board review CD-ROM program. He has lectured extensively before national and international emergency medicine and cardiovascular care audiences. In 1994, Dr. Sciammarella was a featured participant on the nationally broadcast PBS documentary When Seconds Count. Dr. Sciammarella has studied Bo Fung Do kung fu under Phil Messina at Modern Warrior since 1992, where he has served as an assistant instructor in the martial arts program, and as Medical Consultant for Modern Warrior Defensive Tactics Institute. He is also an instructor of Yang style T’ai Chi Chuan, and has taught “Medical Qi Gong” at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Sciammarella is a member of the American Women's Self Defense Association, and is an AWSDA-certified Rape Prevention Instructor. He served as the medical consultant for the defense team in the Amadou Diallo murder trial in New York State from 1999-2000. Dr. Sciammarella is also a member of the American Society for Law Enforcement Training and is a charter member and Medical Adviser to ILEETA.
