Larry E. Lein, M.A. George Washington University, is currently President of Law Enforcement & Security Trainers, Inc. (LEST, Inc.) and is a retired Special Agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). For over 30 years, Larry has instructed classes for federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel in Firearms, Defensive Tactics, SWAT, Physical Fitness, Officer Survival, and Civil Rights/Use of Force. He is certified as a Generalist Instructor in the State of Missouri and is an adjunct instructor with the Law Enforcement Training Institute, University of Missouri, in Columbia. Larry has served on two Police Officers and Standards Training (POST) committees dealing with defensive tactics and ground defense for the State of Missouri. Larry investigated civil rights complaints against police officers for excessive use of force his last few years in the FBI. He received a commendation and an award from the Director of the FBI in August of 1994, in recognition of his “vast knowledge” in the area of civil rights and his “excellent relationship” in working with other law enforcement agencies in his civil rights training presentations. He has written several training manuals for courses that have been POST-approved in Missouri as well as having several articles published in different law enforcement publications. Larry has been practicing martial arts since 1961 and currently has black belt certifications in Judo, Jujitsu, Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do. He, along with his son Chris, has developed courses to help officers avoid excessive use of force complaints. These courses, Chris Lein Arm Management Program (CLAMP) and Ground Reaction and Self Protection (GRASP) have been developed to assist officers based on his extensive background in martial arts and police training.
